Everything You Wanted to Know About Power BI (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Power BI is the gold standard for cloud-based report delivery. It's very approachable - you can get up and running with it in minutes, but it's also very robust, secure and extensible. As you might expect, it has many pieces and nuances, and it's important to understand what is possible, even if you may not take immediate advantage of some features, in order to understand what to use when. This tutorial will help to guide you in building a complete analytical solution, using all the features of Power BI. We will start from nothing, and create queries that import and integrate data from many different sources. You will also learn how to refresh data using the on-premises data gateway and the personal gateway to connect to existing on-premises data from a variety of sources. In addition, you will see an overview the many other additional features available in Power BI. At the end of this full-day workshop you will be ready to not only start using Power BI for your projects, but you will also understand which approach is best for different situations. Bring your questions, and we'll do our best to answer them.

When Clouds Meet Earth – A Story of SharePoint, SAP and Nintex

The Spar Journey to Office 365

SharePoint Online is a great platform allowing organizations to leverage the latest Microsoft has to offer in the Office365 ecosystem. It does however, present challenges for those with existing on-premise SharePoint installations looking to migrate to the cloud. The SPAR Group Ltd SA, uses SharePoint Online exclusively as its internal collaboration and productivity platform. Having gone through migrations from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 and finally to SharePoint Online, we have made the transition successfully and learnt a lot along the way. This presentation will highlight the context within which SharePoint is employed inside SPAR, the critical success factors in the journey to the SharePoint Online platform, and elements that have influenced SharePoint adoption across the SPAR organisation.

The Ever-Changing Landscape of Information Management: Achieving Compliance without End User Burden

As the technology landscape rapidly changes, the practices and processes that are used to manage information must continuously evolve. Organisations can’t rely on traditional ways of managing information. They need to keep up with the pace and not be stuck in the old ways. Let’s take a look at how far information management has come and where it’s heading – from traditional records management and document management to enterprise content management. This session will explore how you can continue to deliver business value to your organisation in an ever-changing industry. We know that driving user adoption is key to information management success, but achieving this while balancing organisational requirements and IT tasks is an ever-mounting challenge. How can you achieve compliance by stealth? Alyssa Blackburn will showcase how to achieve compliance while meeting your organisation’s requirements with little to no impact to the end user.

Deconstructing Operational Business Intelligence in The Construction Business

"Creativity is intelligence having fun”. Through interactive graphics, charts, infograms and KPI’s we have deployed intelligence to the end-user community to have insight into business operations without looking at dull tables and matrices. The challenge is to use the best visualisation aimed at the right level to display the correct information. Construction information need not be all rows and columns.  It can be circles, hexagons, blobs and even triangles.  This session will give insight into thinking outside the cube to learn what is possible.

Office Anywhere

In this presentation we will look very practically at how Cloud computing and the new office toolsets (SharePoint, OneDrive, Planner, Groups, Yammer etc.) are changing the way we work as well as the impact on us as individuals and organisations entering this new world of work. You will be taken through the journey and lessons learnt thus far that RMB and FirstRand have been on and are still on in implementing and upgrading to the new Office 365 toolsets in terms of: data and data migration – security and governance; people and change management; the mobile workforce, and how we bring this all together and look at the benefits in terms of human-computer interaction in our daily lives.

Mobilising Business Productivity

Why invest millions of Rands in business productivity solutions that employees only have access to for 8 hours a day when they are logged in at the office? Digital transformation in the workplace is realised by including mobile as a primary channel of all your business productivity and reporting solutions. These can be categorised into the main categories of: staff engagement solutions, mobile interface to strategic line of business systems and mobile reporting solutions, all of which will be discussed in this session.

Your Intranet in Your Pocket – Creating a Personailised Intranet Experience That is Delivered to a Mobile Device

What I Learnt Cycling Through Every Country in Africa

On the 30th of June 2013, after selling everything he owned, 20kg overweight, alone and unaided, and with no ‘adventure’ experience, Ron Rutland left Cape Town Stadium on his bicycle to fulfill a lifelong dream and embark on a world first - a single continuous journey through every country on mainland Africa. 42,000km, 841 days and 75 countries later, Ron arrived in Brighton, UK on the 17th of September 2015 in time to watch Japan beat the Springboks in their opening game of the Rugby World Cup… an historic end to a historic journey! In his uniquely self-deprecating and humorous manner, Ron has inspired and motivated audiences in South Africa, and around the world, with his tales from the road, and what it took for the most ordinary and unlikely person to achieve something quite extraordinary. Drawing on his experiences from some of the most inhospitable environments on the planet, Ron shares the tangible ‘real life’ lessons he learnt chasing, and ultimately, reaching the most audacious goal imaginable.
